Achieve Maximum Oracle Database High Availability

To keep your business systems and applications up and running, you need an easy way to ensure Oracle® database high availability. And while high availability means different things to different organizations — some measure it by the response time in a given application, and others continually sample transaction or network throughputs — the ultimate goal of a highly available environment is to maximize the time it’s accessible and operational. Because any IT system downtime incurs serious costs.

In this educational session you’ll learn simple methods to:

  • ·        Improve scalability, availability and data integration.
  • ·        Affordably replicate Oracle data on-premises, remotely or in-the-cloud.
  • ·        Improve performance of OLTP systems by offloading reporting.
  • ·        Minimize risk and downtime during migrations and upgrades.
  • ·        Optimize analytics and the use of business intelligence applications by copying Oracle data to Hadoop® and other non-Oracle DBMS systems.
  • ·        Quickly migrate from the now deprecated Oracle® Streams® to an easy-to-use, low-cost solution that includes everything you need to meet your data-sharing

MySQL for the Oracle Professional
Whether merging technologies or making a complete migration to MySQL, there are definite design and language differences to consider for the Oracle professional.
This session is designed to help ease the burden by walking through major paradigm shifts to the MySQL world.
Topics covered will include:
- Things which may be missed, such as packages and DB links.
- Alternative design patterns to make up for the lack of encapsulation.

Understanding Explain Plans
This presentation is a must-see for anyone doing SQL tuning. Dan has a thorough understanding of how the Cost-Based Optimizer works and shares that knowledge in this presentation.

Dan covers:
· Useful Explain Plan tools and scripts
· Understanding Oracle Explain Plan
· How the CBO makes its decisions
· Query Transformations
· How tables are processed/joined
· How Indexes are processed
· Explain Plan Line Items
Summary:
This is a live-demo presentation. Dan shows how to work with Explain Plans then goes into considerable detail about exactly how Oracle arrives at an Explain Plan. Dan is an experienced trainer with considerable knowledge on this topic. The attendee will gain valuable insights as to how Oracle processes SQL and many tips on how to improve SQL performance.

Oracle on VMware Licensing: From Zero to Expert in 40 Minutes
Many organizations that run, or plan to run, their Oracle Business Critical Applications on VMware virtualization do not understand that the Oracle contract is agnostic to VMware and how that translates to their infrastructure and purchasing. We invite you to join this session for a frank presentation and conversation about Oracle on VMware licensing by the contract.

This session includes Oracle representatives’ Oracle-on-VMware assertions that:

• Soft-partitioning, a host-level concept, is disallowed

• Soft-partitioning may also be a cluster-level concept

• vSphere sub-cluster licensing is disallowed

• The so-called 10-Day Rule is moot

• Licensing of all SAN or NAS-attached vSphere hosts
is required as of vSphere 5.1

• Enterprise-wide licensing is required as of vSphere 6

We will outline the terms that have improved and gotten worse through the last two decades of contract history, and disclose what relevant case law has been uncovered by House of Brick clients' legal teams.
